The non-profit: American Overseas Schools Historical Society (AOSHS) has awarded $9,000 in scholarships to 2023 graduates of the DODEA education system.

Dr. Tom Drysdale Memorial Scholarships in the amount of $1500 each, went to overseas small school seniors from Kadena Okinawa, Yokosuka (Kinnick) Japan, and Sigonella Italy. Additionally, working with Stuttgart and Kaiserslautern alumni, two additional $1500 scholarships were awarded to seniors from their schools.  Stuttgart had the most applicants. (10). The winners are excellent students and demonstrated good broad character with volunteer work and were active in school activities and sports. The awardees’ applications were among a record number (25) of highly qualified applicants, and were reviewed by a scholarship committee from AOSHS, Overseas Brats, and for the K-Town and Stuttgart scholarships, their alums. This year's winners are the sons and daughters of enlisted and officer military members, DoDDS educators, and a Stars & Stripes editor.

Funding for this scholarship was initiated by Brats attending the Overseas Brats Gathering in 2013. The fund has since grown and been adopted by donors of the: Brats without Borders, a non-profit, and several of their Regional Brats Clubs; Berlin Brats Alumni Association; Karlsruhe American HS Alumni Association; Kaiserslautern Alumni; Stuttgart Area Schools Alumni Association; and merchandise sales on-line & at the DoDDS World Reunions and Overseas Brats events. Funding this year also came from a recent Facebook fundraiser for which over 50+ brats, TCKs, and educators made contributions.

For the 2023-2024 school year, AOSHS hopes to award another $9,000 in scholarships to Brats at overseas schools.

We wish the scholarship winners and other applicants the very best in their academic endeavors.
